Focus2move: Europe best-selling – The Volkswagen Golf is still on top

Europe best-selling cars Year to Date ranking in May 2020 within 44 markets in the continent, from Portugal to Russia. The Volkswagen Golf is still on top, ahead of the Renault Clio which signed the best top 10 performance. The Volkswagen T-Cross is the star of the year, booming 200.3%.

Indeed, while the Volkswagen Golf holds the market crown with 109.060 Year to Date sales (-46.4%), the Renault Clio managed to reach the 2nd position – selling 95.071 (-33.9%) – registering the best Top 10 performance.

The Volkswagen Polo closes the podium with 82.474 units sold (-45.4%). With more than 14 million units sold, it is one of the world’s most successful compact cars ever and actually the best seller. The sixth generation was launched in late 2017, with new exterior design, noticeably more spacious interior that has also been redesigned down to the last detail, new cockpit layout structured for the digital world, efficient TSI (petrol), TGI (natural gas) and TDI (diesel) engines as well as an array of assistance systems which previously was only familiar in larger Volkswagen cars.

The fourth spot is taken by the Volkswagen Tiguan with 77.983 (-38.5%), ahead of the Skoda Octavia, with 74.571 sales (-35.4%) and the Ford Focus with 71.058 (-38%).

The Opel Corsa jumped in 7th position – up 4 spots from last year – selling 66.216 units (-36.5%), followed by the Peugeot 208 with 66.201 (-39.2%) and the Nissan Qashqai with 65.764 (-37.5%).

At the edge of the top 10 ranking we find the Ford Fiesta – stable in 10th place – with 57.772 registrations (-45.8%).

Behind, the Volkswagen T-Cross is the star of the year, booming 200.3% with 39.976, actually taking the 29th position.
